Maple City Face Off Tournament Rules

This tournament will be governed by “USA Hockey Rules.”

10U/ SQUIRT, 12U/ PEEWEE, 14U/ BANTAM:

Games will consist of three 12- stop time periods.

                        Penalties:     Minor – 1.5 Minutes

                           Major - 3 Minutes

                           Misconduct – 7.5 Minutes

 Running time will be used under the following circumstances:

                      1. A team is behind by five goals or more in the third period (stop time will be resumed if the goal differential is reduced to less than five)

          2. Excessive penalties delay the game

          3. The tournament directors feel the game is behind schedule

Teams are required to be ready 15 minutes prior to your scheduled game time in the event we are ahead of schedule. The ice will be resurfaced prior to each game.

10UT4, 12UT4- Each team will play a three-game round robin to determine the seeding for the Championship game.  

14UT4 - The division consists of 7 teams. All teams will play four games to determine the Championship seeding. The seeds for the division will be determined by the total number of points accumulated during the preliminary four game round robin play.

The following point system will be used:

WIN – 2 Points

TIE – 1 Point

LOSS – 0 Points

No times out allowed in regulation games.

If at the end of the preliminary three games two teams are tied within their division (same number of points) tiebreakers will be determined as follows, in deciding order:

1. Result of head-to-head matchup within division

2. Least goals allowed during tournament.

3. Total goals scored, minus total goals allowed, during the tournament.

4. Most goals scored during the tournament.

5. Coin toss by tournament director.

**The greatest goal differential awarded for any one game will not exceed 7 goals. 

 

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES

Championship Game: #1 seed vs. #1 seed in each division.

One time out allowed per team.

If the championship game is tied after regulation the following format will be used:

           1. 4 on 4, 5 Minute, stop time, sudden death overtime. Any penalties left after regulation time will be carried into overtime.   

           2. If still tied, each team will select 3 players for a shootout. Most goals win.

3. If still tied, Sudden Death Shootout. 1 player from each team until the winner. Must use all players on the bench before reusing previous shooters.

Zero tolerance rules are in effect and will be enforced.

This applies to all players, coaches, and fans.

 

The decision of the referees shall be FINAL!

No protest will be accepted against the officials’ decision!

 

Equipment

Only regulation equipment, as established and published by USA Hockey (Rule 304), must be worn for all games. Mouth guards AND Neck guards must be worn by all player.

 

Any player that receives a Game Misconduct penalty for Rules 601(a), 601(d)(1), 601(d)(2), or 601(e)(3) (ABUSE OF OFFICIALS), Rule 615 (FIGHTING), or Rule 629 (LEAVING THE BENCH) will result in that player being ejected for the remainder of the tournament. Any coach or player receiving two (2) Game Misconducts is ejected for the remainder of the tournament. Any coach or player receiving a Match Penalty is ejected for the remainder of the tournament.

Zero Tolerance Policy

USA Hockey is committed to creating a safe and fair environment for all participants. Respect for the game, the opponents, coaches, and officials are a critical part of the environment that is created. This Zero Tolerance Policy summarizes required actions to be taken when violations occur. All players, coaches, officials, team officials and administrators and parents/spectators are required to maintain a sportsmanlike and educational atmosphere before, during and after all USA Hockey sanctioned games.

Any player, coach, parent, or spectator who is removed for Zero Tolerance shall not return for the remainder of the Tournament.

The following points of emphasis must be implemented by all USA Hockey participants and spectators.

Players

A minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (zero tolerance) shall be assessed whenever a player:

1) Openly disputes or argues any decision by an official.

2) Taunts or incites an opponent.

3) Visually creates a disturbance during the game.

Any time that a player persists in any of these actions, they shall be assessed a misconduct penalty. A game misconduct shall result if the player continues such action.

Coaches

A minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (zero tolerance) shall be assessed whenever a coach:

1) Openly disputes or argues any decision by an official.

2) Uses obscene, profane, or abusive language to anyone at any time.

3) Visually displays any sign of dissatisfaction with an official’s decision including standing on the boards or standing in the bench doorway with the intent of inciting the officials, players, or spectators.

Any time that a coach persists in any of these actions, they shall be assessed a game misconduct penalty.

In addition, any player/coach who uses language that is hateful or discriminatory in nature anywhere in the rink before, during or after the game shall be penalized under Rule 601(e.3) resulting in a match penalty. Such behavior is reprehensible and has absolutely no place in our game. The offender shall be immediately suspended until a hearing is conducted by the governing USA Hockey Affiliate.

Parents/Spectators -Parents are expected to be positive role models by treating all players, coaches, officials and fellow spectators with respect and support. The game will be stopped by game officials when parents/ spectators displaying inappropriate and disruptive behavior interferes with other spectators or the game. The game officials will identify violators to the coaches for the purpose of removing parents/ spectators from the spectator’s viewing and game area. Once removed, play will resume. Lost time will not be replaced, and violators may be subject to further disciplinary action by the local governing body. This inappropriate and disruptive behavior shall include:

1) Use of obscene, profane, or abusive language to anyone at any time.

2) Taunting players, coaches, officials, or other spectators by means of baiting, ridiculing, threat of physical violence or physical violence.

3) Throwing of any object in the spectators viewing area, player’s bench, penalty box or on ice surface, directed in any manner as to create a safety hazard.
